How to Make Sidewalk Chalk with Paint or with Chalk
Two ways you can make your own sidewalk chalk paint for kids to try out this summer!

Ingredients
Tempera Paint Method
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- ¼ cup water
- 2 tsp tempera paint It doesn't have to be exact- you can eyeball it.
From Chalk Method
- 2-3 pieces broken chalk crushed with hammer or however you want to crush
- 1 paper plate to hold the crushed chalk dust and pieces
- ¼ cup water
Instructions
Tempera Paint Method
- Add water and cornstarch to a cup and mix. Then add a few drops of tempera paint to the mixture.
- It will be pretty thick but as you stir will begin to combine. You can add water or cornstarch to thicken or thin the mixture as needed to reach the desired consistency.
Chalk Pieces Method
- Crush your chalk pieces. You can do this however you like. I used a hammer and did it on a paper plate. The paper plate was perfect because it help the crumbs and then I could just pour it into the cup with water.
- Add to your cup of water and stir to combine. Add a bit more water if needed to reach desired consistency.
