When you’re stuck inside for the winter months it can be hard to find games and activities for the indoors.

Winter Tic-Tac-Toe is a classic game that can help pass any winter afternoon! Tic-Tac-Toe is fun for all ages, especially when playing with a cup of hot cocoa or some sugar cookies.

Tic-Tac-Toe can be the start of teaching a kiddo about strategy or just a fun way to pass a road trip. And, if you laminate these cards and pieces you can reuse them again and again.

There are 2 variations of this free download included below, available to print in black and white and in full color.

Printable winter tic tac toe board and tokens.

What You’ll Need:

  1. Tic-Tac-Toe printable template (available at the bottom of this post)
  2. Construction paper or cardstock
  3. Printer
  4. Tokens – you can use the printables provided with the boards, or try candy, stickers, little toys, scrap paper. You could also let them write on the pages!
  5. Self-laminating paper (optional, but recommended to make the cards reusable).

How to Play Tic Tac Toe:

  1. Start by giving each player a card. These printable cards are a grid with 3×3. You can use the traditional ‘x’ and ‘o’ for marking the squares, or you can use other tokens of your choice! Since it’s a Halloween version candy pieces would be fun too!
  2. You set up the game by deciding who will be ‘x’ and who will be ‘o’, and then take turns putting your token in empty squares of the grid.
  3. The goal is to get 3 tokens or marks in a row. Whoever does that first wins. You can have your row go in a line diagonally, up, down or straight across.
  4. Once someone has won you can clear the board and start over.
