How to Make a Fizzy Dinosaur Egg Experiment for Kids
This twist on a baking soda and vinegar experiment is a great way to engage kids while learning a bit about chemical reactions and science. Kids will love watching their dino eggs hatch and making a hypothesis around how long it'll take or what type of dino they'll find!
1 science dropper optional- but good for fine motor skills!
Ingredients
5small plastic dinosaur toys
2cupsbaking soda
4dropsfood coloringoptional- if desired.
½cupwater
½cupvinegarapproximate- use as little or as much as needed.
Instructions
Start by adding your baking soda into a large bowl and slowly mixing in the water. Add in your food coloring if using. I used regular liquid coloring, you could also use gel if you're wanting more vibrant colors.
Once it's starting to mold together, add your dinosaur toy to the mixture and surround with more of your paste so that the toy is completely hidden.
Allow to dry for 30 minutes to an hour, or you can dry overnight. Put in a tote or container where kids can see the chemical reaction without a chance of it making too much of a mess.
Next, it's time for the dinosaur eggs to hatch! Add vinegar into a bowl and teach kids how to fill us their dropper with it by pressing and then releasing so that the tube fills. Ask them what they think will happen, then have them spray the eggs with vinegar!
It will take several times to make the egg completely hatch, but they'll love working on it and seeing if they can guess which dinosaur toy it is! You can repeat as many times as you have eggs ready.
