While I love to make slime, if you are playing with children who are still somewhat prone to put everything in their mouths, you may want to try an edible slime recipe instead.
This edible slime is made with just three ingredients and is SUPER simple to make.
Slime is a fun sensory activity for kids, but as always, any activity like this needs adult involvement and supervision.

While all the ingredients for this slime recipe are safe to eat, probably a more accurate way to describe this project is ‘”taste-safe.”
If you’ve never heard this term before, it simply means that it’s safe to taste or even eat a small amount of this slime. That being said, this is not a snack recipe.
This edible slime is not intended to be consumed in large quantities, as it contains a LOT of sugar.
Edible Slime Ingredients:
- Gummy bears – use all one color for a cohesive colored slime, or mix colors for a fun experiment!
- Cornstarch
- Oil – canola or vegetable is great, but any liquid oil that is food-safe works fine, too.
Directions for Edible Slime:
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the gummy bears in the microwave in 30-second increments. This will likely only take 30 seconds + 15 seconds more. Allow them to cool enough to handle. You can check by placing your hand on the outside of the bowl. (Note: This is best done by an adult.)
- In another bowl, add the cornstarch. Create a bowl shape, pushing the cornstarch up the sides.
- Add the melted gummy bears. Use a rubber spatula to fold the cornstarch in the gummy bear liquid.
- Once most of the cornstarch has been incorporated, use your (clean) hands to knead the slime until it’s fully incorporated. As you work, it will be sticky—so add the oil by oiling your hands well.
If you want, you can incorporate other ingredients into your edible slime to add more colors or textures. This could be things like:
Remember to only use ingredients that are edible in order to keep this slime recipe taste-safe.
You can store the edible slime in any airtight container or a ziplock bag.
This edible slime recipe will stay pliable for 2-3 days after you make it, as long as you don’t allow it to dry out. But, edible slime will lose its elasticity quicker than other (non-edible) slime recipes.
This edible slime is so fun to play with, and it smells like the gummy bear flavor you choose. This batch that I photographed for this post was pineapple-flavored, so my whole kitchen smelled like summer!
And a big THANK YOU to you if you are the one researching, gathering supplies, and helping children to make this project—not to mention the cleanup. You are making childhood magic!
