It’s almost time for the sky to be full of 4th of July fireworks and we’ve got lots of crafts to celebrate this summer holiday with your little ones! Whether you want to celebrate with sparklers, fireworks, rockets, or flags, check out these kid-approved fourth of July handprint crafts to make your own 4th of July magic.
Handprint crafts are great in that you can use paint to make a solid handprint or trace it onto paper and cut out to practice scissor skills. You can even trace with a crayon or marker and color in the handprint from there from if you don’t want to get out the paint. This collection has some footprint crafts too so you can get those tiny little toes involved as well!

Why Kids Love Handprint Crafts:
- A lot of kids love to get a little messy at art time (and painting their hands and feet tickles a little!), so this gives them an opportunity to have some “hands on” painting time.
- Since you are using their handprint, each card or artwork is unique to that child!
- Older kids can help trace handprints for younger kids and help cut out the handprint shape as well for scissor practice.
Tips for Making Handprint Crafts:
- If you want a more sparse handprint where you see more fingerprints, use a small paintbrush to coat a dry hand with paint and stamp right onto paper.
- If you want a more solid looking print, coat the hand and stamp a scrap piece (or just make two of the same handprints to make more than one craft). Then, immediately add another coat of paint and stamp another piece and the second stamp will look more filled in.
- For easier paint removal, don’t let the paint fully dry before washing it off. Make as many handprints in that color as you want and then wash before it fully dries.
- If you are worried about paint on clothes or tables, try a smock or coated tablecloth for easy clean up!
Statue Of Liberty Handprint Craft

- Make a handprint with a turquoise paint in the middle of your paper (have them stick out their thumb a bit to be her arm).
- Paint a circle for the head or use a large round paint dauber to make the circle. Paint a cone shape in her hand to be the torch.

- Cut a paper crown out of a similar color and a flame out of yellow or gold paper for the torch (you can also paint these if you’d rather just use paint).
- Glue on your crown and flame with a glue stick and add google eyes and a smile for the face. Cut around your Statue of Liberty and she’s all done!
Sparkler Handprint Craft

- Make a yellow handprint in the middle of the paper with their fingers spread out.
- Use a popsicle stick or section of a wooden kabab skewer to be the stick of the sparkler and glue a thin rectangle of black paper to the top of the stick (you can also use brown paper instead of a stick or just paint on the brown stick as well).

- Glue your stick in place into the middle of your handprint and add gold or yello paint or puff paint lines to be your sparkler shine lines. Add some stars at the end of the line with paint, or gold paper cut outs, or star stickers and write “SPARKLE AND SHINE” at the top!
Rocket Handprint Craft

- Trace a handprint onto gold or yellow paper and cut out. Cut a red rectangle and a blue triangle to be the top of the rocket.
- You can also cut some white stripes to glue onto your rocket body and some stars (or use star stickers!) to glue onto the top of the rocket.
- Assemble your rocket by adding your stripes and stars (cutting off the excess of the stripes) and then gluing the top of the rocket to the body.
- Glue your gold handprint under the bottom of the rocket to be your flames and your rocket is ready for liftoff!

Firecracker Footprint Craft

- Paint a footprint that is half red and half blue and stamp onto a piece of paper (you can fill in the arch area with some extra paint if your kiddo has a high arch and that part doesn’t transfer paint).
- Write “MY LITTLE FIRECRACKER” along the side of the foot.
- Cut out your foot shape leaving some white around the edge.
- Cut a star-like shape to be the fuse out of gold or yellow paper and glue onto a section of black pipe cleaner to attach it to the paper.
Eagle Handprint Craft

- Trace and cut out two brown handprints and one white handprint.
- Cut a beak shape (can just be a simple triangle) out of yellow or orange paper and a head shape out of white paper (basically a circle with a ruffle shape at the bottom of it). You can also add some half circle feet as well with gold or yellow/orange paper.
- Overlap the palms of the brown paper to create the wings and glue together. Glue your white handprint so it’s coming out of the bottom.

- Attach your feet, head, beak, and draw or glue on some google eyes to complete your eagle!

- Create a footprint with red, white, and blue paint to create the bomb pop (you can fill in the arch area with some extra paint if your kiddo has a high arch and that part doesn’t transfer paint).
- Cut out your footprint when dry.

- Glue your footprint onto a popsicle stick and write “YOU’RE THE BOMB!” on the stick.
Fireworks Handprint Craft

- Stamp a red and a blue handprint onto a piece of paper.
- Write “HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!” on your paper in the top corner.
- Draw lines to be the explosions with paint, markers, or puffy paint and add stars and dotted lines for different textures to complete your fireworks.

Flag Fingerprint Craft

- Using a white piece of paper as your base, cut out red strips of paper to be your stripes and glue them on.
- Cut out a blue square for the top left corner and glue to attach.
- Using white paint, create your “stars” on the blue paper with your finger prints and let dry to create your finished flag!
