Help your little one track the weather each day in your neighborhood with this fun felt weather board craft! Using weather boards like this helps kids learn about the different weather patterns and can help them decide how to dress that day and be prepared for what’s ahead.
Felt boards like our solar system felt board craft are great because all the items are soft and (once all glue or paint is dry) all the components can be moved around and played with to create their own little weather world.

Why kids love felt weather boards:
- All the items are soft so even little kids can play around with moving the items and sticking them in different places.
- It’s fun to update and change the board as the weather changes throughout the day.
- You can make a game of choosing an outfit and an accessory to match what the board says for the day (like grab an umbrella or sunscreen).
What You’ll Need to Make it:

- fabric scissors (for an adult to use)
- felt sheets
- enough felt by the yard (or fleece) to cover your size poster board
- small poster board or cardboard
- school glue or low-temp glue gun (used with supervision)
- google eyes
- puff paint for mouths (optional)
- weather board template download
How to Make A Felt Weather Board Craft:

Step 1. Print out your weather board download so you can cut out your weather shapes and letters and trace them onto the color felt you want for each item. I used one color for the sun flare and one for the circle of the sun on top of the flare color.

Step 2. Use fabric scissors to cut out each item (adults should be the one to use the fabric scissors).

Step 3. Next, glue your sun circle onto the sun flare color and let dry. Glue on any google eyes or use puffy paint or markers to make little faces next.
Would you like to save this?

Step 4. Then you’re ready to glue on your different temperature gauges, add googley eyes to your cloud and any other detail pieces you want to use puffy paint on.

Step 5. Finally, to make your weather board, trim a piece of black felt or fleece to the size of your poster board or cardboard and glue it on with school glue or a low-temp hot glue gun. You can even wrap the fabric around the back and tape it to the back of the cardboard or cardstock.

Step 6. Your weather board is ready to play with by moving the pieces around!
Tips for Making a Solar System Felt Board Craft:
- Add some glitter felt stars to your felt board for extra sky detail.
- Fabric scissors work best when cutting felt, they are great for lots of different crafts so it’s worth it to have a pair on hand.
- If cutting out the letters from felt seems to tedious, you can also use paint to paint on the letters “today’s weather” or use stick on letter patches
