Let’s make Kool-Aid pickles! Sometimes people call these koolickles, and they are exactly as the name suggest.
Kool-Aid pickles are pickles that have been soaked in a mixture of Kool-Aid and sugar, so the pickles take on different flavors and become sweeter. If you like pickles and ice cream, this may be a recipe worth trying!
Kool-Aid pickles are a very simple recipe, so it’s also a fun activity to try with kids. If you can stir and pour, you can make this!

Kool-Aid Pickle Ingredients:
- Dill pickles – or other pickles
- Kool-Aid mix – any flavor you like
- Granulated white sugar
How to Make Kool-Aid Pickles:
- Remove the liquid from the pickle jar, saving in a small mixing bowl or glass measuring cup.
- Stir in the Kool-Aid mix and sugar until dissolved.
- Pour the liquid back into the pickle jar with the pickles (it may not all fit as there will be more volume after adding the sugar).
- Store the pickles in the refrigerator for at least seven days. Every few days, give the jar a shake to make sure no sugar or sediment stays on the bottom.
What pickles work best?
You can use ANY pickles you want for this. But, one thing to keep in mind is that I used 24-ounce jars of dill pickles. If you use a larger or smaller jar, you may want to adjust the amount of Kool-Aid mix or sugar you add.
You can also use pickles outside of the traditional cucumber kind, like pickled carrots or onions. Feel free to experiment!
