Mother’s Day is one of the top days of the year for homemade crafts and cards. It’s especially moving to create a card or artwork that incorporates kids handprints into the craft so Mom can remember forever how little they once were. We’ve got lots of Mother’s Day handprint craft ideas that will make Mom smile and feel loved on her special day!
Handprint crafts are great in that you can use paint to make a solid handprint or trace it onto paper and cut out to practice scissor skills. You can even trace with a crayon or marker and color in the handprint from there from if you don’t want to get out the paint. Use or flower template as another craft for Mother’s Day or make a bouquet of tissue paper flowers to go with your card!

Why Kids Love Handprint Crafts:
- A lot of kids love to get a little messy at art time (and painting their hands tickles a little!), so this gives them an opportunity to have some “hands on” painting time.
- Since you are using their handprint, each card or artwork is unique to that child!
- Older kids can help trace handprints for younger kids and help cut out the handprint shape as well for scissor practice.
Tips for Making Handprint Crafts:
- If you want a more sparse handprint where you see more fingerprints, use a small paintbrush to coat a dry hand with paint and stamp right onto paper.
- If you want a more solid looking print, coat the hand and stamp a scrap piece (or just make two of the same handprints to make more than one craft). Then, immediately add another coat of paint and stamp another piece and the second stamp will look more filled in.
- For easier paint removal, don’t let the paint fully dry before washing it off. Make as many handprints in that color as you want and then wash before it fully dries.
- If you are worried about paint on clothes or tables, try a smock or coated tablecloth for easy clean up!
Handprint Butterfly

- To create your handprint butterfly, use two pieces of white paper and stamp overlapping handprints with two different spring colors.
- Cut out around the handprints to create the butterfly wings.
- Glue your wings overlapping in the middle on another piece of paper (a piece of colored paper is fun!).
- Cut out and glue a long oval from a brown or gold piece of paper to be the body of your butterfly and glue that on.
- Love butterflies? Grab our printable butterfly template or make an origami butterfly too!

- Add antennae and a smile with a marker and google eyes with some glue.
- Write “Happy Mother’s Day!” at the bottom and you’re done!
Flowerpot Handprint Craft

- Add three sprint colored handprints to a horizontal piece of white paper.
- Cut out flower pot shapes from brown paper.
- Cut out thin green paper rectangles to be the stems and a few leaf shapes for your flowers.
- Glue your flowerpots and green stems and leaves underneath your handprint flowers.
- You could also make a handprint bouquet of flowers if you don’t want to cut out pots!

- To create the “MOM”, use large letter stickers, or cut out paper letters, or draw on your letters with a marker to finisih off your project.
Paper Lilly Handprint Bouquet

- Trace your kiddo’s handprint and cut out 4-6 of the shapes.
- At the base of the palm area, curl the flower to create a cone shape with the fingers up at the top. Use glue or tape to secure in place.
- Curl outward the finger petals of your flower (wrapping them around a pencil or crayon briefly is a good way to curl them).

- Cut a section of yellow pipe cleaner about 5″ long and fold in half. Wrap around a green pipe cleaner twist the yellow part to be the stamen of your flower. Thread the green pipe cleaner through the base of your cone to be your stem.

- Repeat with each flower until you have a small bouquet to give!

- Add personal note and the card is ready to give!

- Cut out some black strips of paper to be the stripes and a paper triangle to be the stinger (or you can choose to paint or use marker to make your stripes and stinger).

- Add “You Couldn’t “BEE” A Better Mom!” to the bottom of your artwork.
