There’s something so sweet about handprint crafts. This Father’s Day handprint craft is a great art activity for kids. Kids love seeing their handprints turned into different objects and they make a great keepsake from kids of any age. We made a hammer footprint, a tie and dinosaur handprint card, a grill, glove, goldfish, guitar and a trophy using our printable trophy template.
To turn these into cards all you’d need to do is write on the back or add a flap the same size. You could even glue them onto a larger piece of paper that you write your message on, puns encouraged! This craft is great because toddlers or babies can do the handprint portion, (maybe use the feet if you’re doing this with an infant like we did with the hammer) while older kids can probably handle doing the majority of this one on their own!

Tips for Handprint Crafts
- If you’re planning to do more than one of each handprint, do the handprints in batches. I did one page of each color with my kiddo, washing his hand off in between. This makes it easier if you need a bunny for each set of grandparents, babysitters, teachers, etc.
- If you want a more sparse handprint where you see more fingerprints, use a small paintbrush to coat a dry hand with paint and stamp right onto paper.
- If you want a more solid looking print, coat the hand and stamp a scrap piece of paper. Then, immediately add another coat of paint and stamp another piece and the second stamp will look more filled in.
- For easier paint removal, don’t let the paint fully dry before washing it off. Make as many handprints in that color as you want and then wash before it fully dries.
- I keep some baby wipes nearby and immediately wipe off the hand to remove most of the paint before switching colors or sending them to wash their hands.
- If you are worried about paint on clothes or tables, try a smock or coated tablecloth for easy clean up!
Supplies
- Paint (I use acrylic because for keepsakes I want them to last longer)
- Foam brushes or other paint brushes
- cardstock – I did all of these on a white background and then cut out the accessories/accents using colors primarily from this and this pack.
- scissors (kids)
- glue or gluesticks
- marker
Footprint Hammer Father’s Day Art
Use grey paint and make your stamp on white paper. Cut out a piece of yellow paper to be the handle of the hammer and glue onto a different piece of colored paper. Use a marker to decorate or add a message.
Handprint Grilling Card
This handprint grill is a fun way to celebrate the dad who’s always cooking something up on the grill. To make the fire part of the craft use yellow, red and orange paint and make stamps on white cardstock. Cut out a piece of black paper in a half circle shape. Add strips of black paper for the ‘legs’ of the grill and finish by glueing on the handprints. Add a note saying happy father’s day and glue onto the black paper.
Handprint Fishing Father’s Day Card
If you have a father figure who enjoys the outdoors, this fish card is so cute! The stamped handprint becomes the fish and you can make it any color you’d like. Draw on a fishing pole and line, and add a bobber. I used blue paper for the background to make it look more like the ocean.
Handprint Guitar Card
This card is for the dad who loves or plays music! You could also use this pun to create a fun painted rock too. Turn the stamped handprint into the body of the guitar and add the strings and a fun message for this card.
Handprint Trophy
This trophy handprint is a great way to celebrate any dad! Using our printable trophy template cut out the trophy shape and add a message. Take a stamped handprint and glue onto the trophy bowl. It matches our Father’s Day Tic Tac Toe a bit too!
Handprint Tie Card
This tie is a fun one for any dad who works in an office! Make a tie in the colors of choice and use the handprint to represent the knot. Make a second shaped tie and glue to the back of the tie to turn it into a card!
Handprint Dinosaur Card
This dino is totally dino-mite! You could make him a lot of different ways but we added triangles to our as spikes, and then a dot for the eye. Inside we wrote a fun message and it’s ready to be delivered!
Handprint Baseball Glove Father’s Day Card
Any sports loving dad would love getting this card! Use brown paint to create a stamped baseball glove, and add a circle with red lines to create the baseball.
