There’s something so sweet about handprint crafts. This super hero handprint activity is a great craft for kids who love any/all super heroes and they can make the whole team or pick just their favorite to create.
This is a fun craft for Father’s Day or Valentine’s Day too! To turn these into cards all you’d need to do is write on the back or add a flap the same size. You could even glue them onto a larger piece of paper that you write your message on. This craft is great because toddlers can do the handprint portion and tell you which superhero they want to be, while older kids can probably handle doing the majority of this one on their own!

Tips for making super hero handprint art:
- If you’re planning to do more than one super hero handprint, do the handprints in batches. I did one page of each color with my kiddo, washing his hand off inbetween.
- If you want a more sparse handprint where you see more fingerprints, use a small paintbrush to coat a dry hand with paint and stamp right onto paper.
- If you want a more solid looking print, coat the hand and stamp a scrap piece of paper. Then, immediately add another coat of paint and stamp another piece and the second stamp will look more filled in.
- For easier paint removal, don’t let the paint fully dry before washing it off. Make as many handprints in that color as you want and then wash before it fully dries.
- I keep some baby wipes nearby and immediately wipe off the hand to remove most of the paint before switching colors or sending them to wash their hands.
- If you are worried about paint on clothes or tables, try a smock or coated tablecloth for easy clean up!
Helpful Supplies
- Paint (I use this finger paint)
- Foam brushes or other paint brushes
- cardstock – I did all of these on a white background and then cut out the accessories/accents using colors primarily from this and this pack.
- scissors (kids)
- glue or gluesticks
- marker
Spiderman Handprint
Go webs go! Use a paintbrush and paint the child’s hand red, then stamp the paper. Once dried, cut out- including around the fingers. Cut out an oval shape for eyes and glue to the handprint. Use a marker to trace the inside edge of the white and to make the spider webs. It’d be fun to turn this one into Ghost Spider or Spin too!
Captain America Handprint- Sam Wilson
To make Captain America start with a blue handprint stamp. Cut out a face, goggle, wings and the famous shield components from cardstock and assemble. (Pun intended Avenger fans!)
Thor Super Hero Handprint
What makes Thor so distinct is his hammer, so after stamping the child’s hand glue on a face, helmet, cape and his hammer and he’s ready for Fa ‘THOR’s’ Day! These cards ideas just write themselves! 🙂 One note on this craft- I didn’t have black finger paint, so I made it using purple as my base and adding in a lot of other colors.
Iron Man Handprint
I
For an Iron Man themed handprint, start with a red stamped base and using cardstock cut out a mask and eyes. I used a black marker to outline the ‘mouth’ of the mask.
Black Panther Handprint
To make Black Panther, I started with a black hand stamp and then cut out a mask shape. I added a few details from his mask and costume/uniform with grey cardstock.
Hulk Handprint
Having a SMASHing Valentine’s/Father’s Day! To make Hulk start with a green stamped handprint, add his purple pants, and details with cardstock and marker. I did use googley eyes so he didn’t look too angry. You can let your kiddo decide or decorate however they want!
Captain America Handprint- Steve Rogers
For Captain America, I made another shield with red, white and blue cardstock. Then I added a face and his helmet. ‘Here’s to a ‘SUPER’ dad’ is an easy one to pair with this handprint!
v
Batman Handprint
I know, we’re switching to DC. But Batman is just pretty cool! My son has majorly entered his superhero phase so these superhero handprints had to include all of his favorites. To make batman cut out a mask, face and eyes from cardstock and glue onto a handprint. You could add a cape too!
Superman Handprint
S
For Superman, I started with a blue handprint and added his signature ‘S’ with cardstock. He got a cape and a few other cardstock details to finish this super hero craft. ‘Here’s to a ‘SUPER’ dad’ fit this one perfectly too.
Aquaman Handprint
For aquaman I started with a green stamped base, then added his ‘shirt’ with scales, (marker lines) his face and hair, and of course his trident. Usually for the details I just draw an outline and then cut them out to make them fit!
