Candy sushi is one of the most fun ways you can get creative with candy. Whether you want to make a candy-based maki roll or a classic nigiri shape, you can create endless combinations of different candy flavors. While you can make your own Rice Krispies treats for this snack, you can also use store bought treats to speed up the time and lessen the clean after the fun is over.
While candy sushi may look intimidating, this no bake dessert idea is actually easy to make and even more fun to eat!

Key Ingredients For Candy Sushi

For Candy Sushi Nigiri
- Rice Krispies treats– With the .78oz size, you’ll get two nigiri per treat. You can also make a pan of your own homemade and cut it into the pieces and sections you need for your sushi.
- Airheads candy- You can use green Airheads candy to be the seaweed that you wrap around your nigiri piece.
- Swedish Fish– Top your nigiri with a Swedish Fish or other candy topper.
For Candy Sushi Maki Roll
- Rice Krispies treats– With the .78oz size, I used two treats to make a seven piece maki roll. You can also make a pan of your own homemade and cut it into the pieces and sections you need for your sushi.
- Rope candy– For the middle of the maki roll.
- Sour belts– To wrap around the outside of the maki roll.
- Pop rocks or sprinkles for the topping!
Tips and Substitutions
- Don’t forget your “soy sauce” which is chocolate syrup of course!
- You can sub out the green Airheads for other items like strips or fruit roll-ups or thinner candy ropes.
- Try adding some Nerds Gummies into the middle of your maki roll for some crunch!
- You can also use a flattened fruit roll up rather than sour belts as the base of your maki roll.
- If you go to roll up your maki roll and your Rice Krispies Treats aren’t long enough to go all the way around your filling to make a complete circle, just unroll it flat again and smush on some more treats on one side to extend the length so it will connect the next time you roll it.
Get creative with your candy choices and flavors- the combinations (and fun) are endless!

How to Make Candy Sushi Nigiri

Step 1. Cut your rice krispie treats into smaller rectangles (I got two per .78 oz treat) that will fit your swedish fish or candy topper.

Step 2. Cut a strip of green airheads (or fruit roll up, sour belt, or other candy rope) and wrap it around your candy to be the seaweed strip that holds it together.
You’re done!

How to Make a Candy Sushi Maki Roll

Step 1. Lay out 7 sour belts flat on a piece of wax paper.
Place two rice krispies treats on the belts and use a rolling pin to flatten them out.

Step 2. Once they are flattened, add a few candy ropes to the middle of your rice krispies treat.

Step 3. Trim the ends of your ropes with a knife or pizza cutter so there is still some hanging out of each side.

Step 4. Roll up your sushi roll starting at one of the long sides.

Step 5. Use a knife to make cuts between the sour belts to create your maki roll pieces.
TIP: Depending on the sour belt you use, it may want to stick closed better or worse, so if you’re having trouble getting it to stay wrapped around the roll, you can use a tiny dap of melting chocolate as a glue to keep it closed where the seams overlap.
