Key Ingredients

- Chocolate Wafer cookies- oreos. You can use any style or play with flavors. I used their fun Easter pack so that there was yellow and pink frosting showing through. I do think the double stuffed make it a bit harder to crush.
- 1 box family size instant jello pudding in chocolate (You can use a regular size, you may need to use 2 boxes and adjust the recipe slightly depending on how many you’re wanting to make.)
- Easter candies! I used this edible Easter grass, Sour candy carrots, peeps and cadburry eggs.
- clear 9oz cups if desired to serve in individual portions. I like these because they’re fairly sturdy.
Tips and Substitutions
- You could use various flavors of pudding- try vanilla with some pink food coloring if you’re wanting more of a pastel dirt cup!
- If you’re wanting to make more of a spring garden variation, use a chocolate covered strawberry decorated to look like a carrot.
- For a fun summer twist, use vanilla pudding and golden oreos and add a swedish fish to make a beach themed sand cup.
- Try a dino themed by adding candy or toy dinos.
- This would be great for a construction party, just add some toy dumpsters and excavators!
- Use our dirt cake recipe for a larger group event!
How to Make Easter Dirt Cups
Making these oreo dirt cups is very simple! There are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind as you get started. These need to be refrigerated, and I recommend adding the candies right before serving so they don’t harden. You can keep them in the fridge in an airtight container, but over time the cookies will start to go stale/get soft.

Step 1. Start by making your instant pudding. Combine your jello pudding packet with 3 cups of chilled milk.
You can use a regular size, you may need to use 2 boxes and adjust the recipe slightly depending on how many you’re wanting to make.

Step 2. Allow to rest for 5 minutes or so after combining, then fold and stir in your cool whip. Put in the fridge to chill. This is optional but I feel like it helps the recipe to set up!

Step 3. While your pudding mixture is chilling, crush your oreo cookies. Add them into a gallon ziploc baggie and use a rolling pin or a cup to crush them. This is the perfect part for kids to help with! You can also use a food processor, but the rolling pin method is definitely more fun.

Step 3. Start layering your pudding and cookie crumbs into your 9oz clear plastic cup. I did 3 tbsp of the pudding and 2 tbsp of cookie crumbs per layer.

Step 4. Add 2-3 layers of pudding and cookies, alternating. Or you can do one big layer of pudding with an oreo crumb topping. This part is however you want to make it!

Step 4. Once you’ve finished layering your pudding and cookies, add your Easter candies as decorations, if you’re serving immediately. Otherwise, refrigerate until about 5-10 minutes before serving and add your toppings.
This recipe is simple enough kids of most ages can help make them! I like to serve them in individual 9oz cups, but you could use different sizes or glass options as well. You could also make one batch all together in a pan, whatever works best for you is great.
Easter Dirt Cups FAQs
What is in a dirt cup?
Crushed oreos, cool whip, chocolate pudding, cold milk and fun, decorative candies or toppings. The classic recipe uses gummy worms.
How do you serve dirt cups?
You can put them into one large dish and scoop out, or you can serve in individual glasses. I like to use clear ones! If you make this recipe ahead then be sure to save back the candy toppings and add right before serving.

- 8 plastic 9oz cups (You can serve in different sizes if preferred.)

Instructions
- Start by making your instant pudding. Combine your jello packet with 3 cups of chilled milk.
- Allow to rest for 5 minutes or so after combining, then fold and stir in your cool whip. Put in the fridge to chill. This is optional but I feel like it helps the recipe to set up!
- While your pudding mixture is chilling, crush your oreo cookies. Add them into a ziploc baggie and use a rolling pin to flatten them. This is the perfect part for kids to help with! You can also use a food processor, but the rolling pin method is definitely more fun.
- Start layering your pudding and cookie crumbs. I did 3 tbsp of the pudding and 2 tbsp of cookie crumbs per layer, but then added more cookie crumbs on the top layer. If it's more time efficient you can skip layering them too!
- Store your dirt cups in the refrigerator. Once you have your dirt cups complete, but just before serving add your Easter toppings. This way they don't get too hard in the fridge.
