When it comes to Halloween and the spooky season, handprint art and craft ideas are one of the best ways to celebrate the season, especially for younger children. These Halloween handprint ideas make great gifts and decorations and you can keep them for years to remind yourself of how little your kiddos once were.

Whether you are looking for a spooky or sweet activity, these Halloween handprint art ideas will fill any afternoon with fun.

Handprints on paper made into Halloween crafts.

Tips for making handprint art:

  • If you want a more sparse handprint where you see more fingerprints, use a small paintbrush to coat a dry hand with paint and stamp right onto paper.
  • If you want a more solid looking print, coat the hand and stamp a scrap piece of paper. Then, immediately add another coat of paint and stamp another piece and the second stamp will look more filled in.
  • For easier paint removal, don’t let the paint fully dry before washing it off. I always keep a container of baby wipes nearby for quick removal before we fully wash hands.
  • Make as many handprints in that color as you want and then wash before it fully dries.
  • If you are worried about paint on clothes or tables, try a smock or coated tablecloth for easy clean up!

Ghost Handprint Art:

Grey paper with white handprints to make a ghost next to the letter B on a piece of paper.

This ghost handprint idea makes for a fun and spooky card! Use two handprints to represent the ‘o’s in ‘boo!’ You could use black paper too and make different faces on the ghosts.

Black Cat Handprint Art:

black handprint on a white background with a pom and cardstock to make a cat.

This black cat handprint is sweet and there’s no bad luck around! Glue on pipe cleaner pieces and a pom for the nose and whiskers. The ears are a good way to practice cutting and glueing with black and pink cardstock. You can also color on the accents if it’s easier for little hands.

Witch Handprint Art:

Green handprint on lighter green cardstock with a black cut out hat to make a witch handprint.

Would you like to save this?

We'll email this post to you, so you can come back to it later!

For a full tutorial on this sweet witch check out this post! This witch handprint was stamped onto light green paper and then I used a marker to add accents and cut out a black hat from basic cardstock.

Vampire Handprint Art:

Black handprint on a white background made to look like a vampire craft.

This vampire handprint is made with a black handprint on white paper, but you could paint on his face as well. I used cardstock for his face, hair, fangs and cape.

Jack-O-Lantern Handprint Art:

Orange paper with an orange painted handprint and black cardstock to make a jack-o-lantern handprint craft.

Pumpkin handprints are perfect for both fall and Halloween. To make it spooky all you have to do is add on a jack-o-lantern face! If you want the print to be more visible use white paper for the orange print. I used black and green cardstock for the face and accents. Kids could do several of these and make different faces on each pumpkin.

Spider Handprint Art:

Black painted handprint on white paper on a grey background made to look like a spider.

This spider is dangling down from his web to tell you Happy Halloween! Use an upside down handprint, add some googley eyes and draw on a web with a marker to make this spooktacular little creature. This would be a cute card or sign to hang around October!

Frankenstein Handprint Art:

Green handprint on a light green background to make a monster handprint craft.

This monster handprint is more silly than scary and that’s just how we like it! Use googley eyes and cardstock to make his mouth, hair and even the electric pieces coming from his jaw.

Bat Handprint Art:

purple handprints on light purple paper glued to a black circle to make a black bat.

To make this bat you’ll want to grab two handprints, one of each hand. Then cut out a black circle and glue together. He’s ready to take off for Halloween trick or treating!
