Pretend play is such a fun and special part of being a kid! These crown templates are a fun DIY for kids to add to their dress up toys. It’s great for when they’re learning about shapes and colors too.

If your child is old enough, they can help with the cutting out of the crowns, bands and pieces, or they can help more when it comes to assembly (glue sticks are a great option if kids are helping put the crown together).

Below you will find a pdf file you can download to print. We’ve included four different crown templates along with bands so they can be made as big or small as needed depending on the age of the child.

Crown Printable

Using a crown printable is a fun way to encourage children of all ages to use their imaginations and pretend. It makes a fun addition to any dress up collection. As a preschool or kindergarten craft they can do more of the cutting and coloring with you too.

Make Your Own Crowns

Ready to make your cut out crowns for pretend play? Follow these steps!

Supplies Needed

  • Crown template download (individual and full set options below)
  • Construction paper or cardstock in colors of choice(assorted paper pack)
  • glue stick, stapler or tape
  • scissors
  • markers or crayons, gems, stickers, glitter glue- whatever supplies you want to have on hand to decorate the crowns

Steps to Creating Your Crowns

  1. Print out your template(s).
  2. Cut out the crown and trace it onto paper in the color of your choice.
  3. Next trace any of the individual pieces you want to cut out and glue on like the heart outline, flowers, stars or gems. You can also add these details with stickers, paint or crayons depending on the age of the child working on the craft!
  4. To fit the crown to the child, cut out the additional bands and wrap around their head. Using staples or tape connect the crown pieces. Trim or tape down any excess that you don’t need.
  5. Alternatively, you can glue the bands together with a glue stick and then trim the crown. This would be something older kids could help with or do on their own.

More Ideas to Try

  • Use the templates to make crowns for both kids and their toys- how cute would the flower or heart crown be for a doll?
  • Use real flowers to tape or glue onto the flower crown template to integrate some nature play.
  • Store these on a hook or someplace they won’t get smashed for your next round of pretend play!
