Gobble gobble! Out around watching the parade and getting to the Thanksgiving meal you may need a little activity for the kiddos to work on. This turkey paper bag puppet craft is perfect for kids to make and play with and our printable will make it easier than ever to get them started. Paper bag puppet crafts are nostalgic and timeless, they’re one of my favorites. They’re a fun, low cost activity that kids can really use their imaginations with.
This is a cheerful turkey that kids can make using only a brown paper lunch bag, printer paper, markers and our free template (at the bottom of the post or in the supply list). It’s perfect for pretend play and putting on a full puppet show with storytelling, and it is a great activity for preschool and kindergarten kiddos. Print out our turkey in disguise printables or our turkey template with a 3D craft idea while you’re at the computer and you’ll have a few different low-effort Thanksgiving crafts to kick off!

Supplies for Making Your Puppet
Making Your Paper Bag Turkey

Print out your turkey puppet printable and color in thepieces. You could also use this as a template to craft the turkey with construction paper or cardstock! I’m planning on putting this turkey face on a balloon next!

Cut out the pieces to your turkey and glue onto your paper bag with a gluestick. You can also pre-cut these pieces for smaller hands. Add the eyes and beak and your turkey is ready to put on a Thanksgiving show!
Ways to Customize Your Turkey Puppet
- Instead of using markers or crayons you could trace the template and make on construction paper.
- Use tissue paper, craft feathers or paper scrapes for the feathers. Similar to how we did for this paper plate lion craft!
- Use pom poms, squiggly eyes or other craft supplies to customize and decorate your turkey.
