There’s something so nostalgic and joyful about crafting during the holiday season! I love using kids crafts as decorations around the house. Making a paper plate reindeer craft is an easy way to get kids excited for the holiday season without needing many supplies or taking up too much time at all.
Paper plate crafts for kids are some of the most versatile crafts there are. This project only needs paper, glue and a paper plate. You can use paint or markers and it can be customized with other colors. It would be fun to make Santa’s whole team of reindeer before leaving reindeer food out for the night! Pair this with an easy paper plate santa craft, a paper plate Christmas tree or a paper plate Christmas wreath to make it a longer crafting event!

Why kids love paper plate crafts
I love projects with classic, easy-to-find supplies like popsicle sticks, toilet paper rolls, and paper plates. There is something nostalgic and timeless about them. Kids can get creative and love seeing what they can turn into too!
- Easy to find supplies are everything! Easy to find, easy to make, easy on parents and easy for kids.
- The best kind of kids projects are things you already have in your home, or can easily grab on your next grocery store trip.
- If you mess up it’s very easy and possible to start over.
Supplies for your Paper Plate Reindeer
- Paper plates
- Scissors (remember to do the cutting if your child isn’t ready to yet.)
- Construction paper scraps or cardstock in brown, tan and white.
- Markers, crayons, paint stick pens or paint
- googley eyes, or you can draw them on.
- School glue or glue stick.
Step By Step Reindeer Paper Plate Craft

Begin by painting or coloring your brown. If you’re wanting this to be a faster craft you can use markers, crayons or colored pencils. I’ve been loving these stick paints too! You could also pre-paint plates too and have them ready for the kid to pick from.

Cut out your antlers, reindeer ‘face’ and glue onto the plate. If you’re having trouble securing the antlers to the back of the tape with school glue or a glue stick you can use tape too!

Add your googley eyes (or drawn ones) and a red nose if this is inspired by rudolph. Completely up to the kiddo’s creative direction. 🙂

Add in details with marker or crayon for a smile, eyebrows, etc. Display on a fun bulletin board or use as a temporary wreath!
Tips for Your Paper Plate Reindeer:
- Use leftover scraps of paper from other projects.
- If you’re making this with a younger child who can’t cut with scissors yet, it may be helpful to prep the paper pieces for the antlers, eyes, cheeks or nose in advance.
- If you have a kiddo who will want to craft right away, you can even pre-paint the plate so that they can start assembling without having to wait for the paint to dry.
