If you are looking for a fun and easy card idea to make mom a craft for Mother’s Day (or just have some kiddos who love sheep), then give this fingerprint sheep craft a try! Kids love painting with their fingers and making animal crafts, so this is a double-win.
Creating a homemade card is the perfect way for kids to show mom how much she means to them since they are using their own unique fingerprints to make the sheep.
You can also leave off the text and use this craft for learning about sheep or for adding to a craft series about life on a farm.

Why kids love this fingerprint sheep craft card:
- Making homemade gifts and cards is a favorite activity for kids since they get to give it to someone (and see their eyes light up at their work), so crafts that double as cards can be extra special!
- Kids love using their fingers to create art (and it makes it more personal of a design), so using the fingerprint painting makes it unique to them.
- Animal crafts are a great way to learn more about that particular animal while you work on the craft together.
What you’ll need to make it:
- cardstock paper or construction paper in the color of your choice
- scissors
- white acrylic or washable paint
- small paintbrush
- glue stick or school glue
- small google eyes
- black marker
- white puffy paint (optional)
Tips for fingerprint painting:
- You can put a small amount of paint on a tray or paper plate for kids to dip their fingers into for the fingerprints. Or you can use a small paintbrush and paint directly onto their fingers for each press.
- Less paint will show more of your kid’s actual fingerprint and more paint will look more like a dot.
How to make a Fingerprint Sheep Craft:
- To create your card, fold a piece of paper in half and trim down the size a little if desired.
- In the middle of the paper, have your kid do a bunch of fingerprints with white paint, creating a circle shape of fingerprints to be the sheep body. They can dip their fingers in a small amount of paint or you can paint their fingers and let them stamp the fingerprint. Allow the paint to dry for a few minutes.
- In the middle of your white fingerprints, have your child place a vertical black thumbprint to be the sheep’s face, and then two smaller fingerprints at an angle off the head to be the ears. Add two more black fingerprints to be the legs of the sheep at the bottom of the white fingerprints, and allow the paint to dry.
- Once the paint is dry, add some small google eyes with glue to the face of the sheep. If you want, you can also outline the sheep’s body with white puffy paint. If you are making this into a Mother’s Day card, have your kid write (or help them write) “I love you Maa” at either the top of the front of the card or on the inside.
