This easy jello cookie recipe is a super fun and colorful way to get kids involved in the kitchen. Making cookies together is certainly an activity I do often with my kiddos, as it’s great for working on motor skills as you measure, pour and mix ingredients—plus for older kids they can help read the recipe and follow the instructions. And you get cookies at the end!
These jello cookies are exactly what they sound like. It’s a simple sugar cookie recipe with any flavor of Jell-O mix added to the dough before baking. This not only adds flavor but also a fun color to your cookies. You can do all one flavor/color or use different jello boxes to make different options and even mix the doughs together to create a marbled look if you like.

Ingredients
- Butter
- Granulated white sugar
- Egg
- Vanilla extract
- All-purpose flour
- Baking soda
- Baking powder
- Jell-O powder
Directions
In a medium to large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar. Then stir in the egg and vanilla extract until just combined.
In another bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda and baking powder. Then combine the wet and dry ingredients into the larger bowl and stir until a soft dough ball forms.
If you are using multiple Jell-O flavors, divide the dough. For example, I used three flavors in the batch you see pictured here, so I divided the dough into three equal parts. Mix the Jell-O powder into the dough until well combined.
Form balls with the dough; this recipe will make 12-13 cookies in total. Place a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a baking mat. Bake at 350°F for 10-12 minutes. Allow cookies to cool on a cooling rack before eating.
Tips & More Ideas
- If you mix the Jell-O powder into the dough by hand, it can temporarily stain your hands, even after washing. This will fade quickly, after a couple of washes so don’t worry if you notice this on yourself or kids.
- Pick colors based on parties—like blue for a Bluey party
- Pick colors based on holiday, like red and blue for July 4th or Juneteenth celebrations.
- Some Jell-O flavors are more pigmented than others, so this will affect the final look of your cookies. I’ve noticed the warmer colors, like reds and oranges tend to be more pigmented.
