Why kids love party blowers:
- Kids love parties, and giving or making them a party-specific activity helps to make the party even more fun!
- Kids can customize their own blower by coloring on the paper before cutting it, or choosing a patterned paper to use for the occasion.
- Even if these blowers don’t make noise, kids still love to blow into them and watch them unroll!
What you’ll need to make it:
- Printer paper or thin scrapbook paper (cardstock or even construction paper is too thick)
- Tape
- Straw (I used these for mine)
- Pencil or pen for rolling your blower sleeve
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Crepe paper or extra paper for fringe (optional)
How to Make A DIY Party Blower:
- Cut a rectangle of paper that’s about 3″ wide x 7″ long.
- Fold your paper lengthwise a little past the middle point of your paper.
- Fold the other side over it and tape down the overlap on the end of the paper so it makes a rectangular sleeve to catch the air.
- Starting with the taped end, roll your paper sleeve around a pencil or pen to curl it up.
- Slip the open end of the sleeve into a straw and pinch the sides of the straw so it’s more sealed around the straw. Use tape to tape in place and cut the straw to trim the length if you would like.
- You can cut some fringe out of paper or crepe paper and tape it around your blower for an extra decoration.
- Now your party blower is ready to party!
Party tip! Use patterned or colored paper the colors of your party to match your DIY party blowers to your holiday theme or decor!
You’ll find that these homemade blowers don’t curl all the way back up like the store bought ones do after you’re done blowing, but my 5-year-old didn’t seem to care about that.
She kept using it for quite a while (and they can even re-roll them on their little fingers to get a bigger roll out when they blow). Happy partying!

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you store these to use later for another party?
Like anything that you put in your mouth, you probably won’t want to save these for another party since they aren’t washable. But, if it’s just the same kid that wants to play with it for several days in a row, go for it!
Can I use cardstock or thicker construction paper for this project?
You’ll want to use a thinner paper for this project––like a printer paper or thin scrapbook paper. If the paper is too thick, it will be really hard to roll and won’t unroll when kids blow into it.
